On Jan. 30, the delegates of the Superior Federation of Labor met at the Superior Public Library to screen candidates for school board and city council candidates taking part in the Feb. 19 primary.

All school board candidates attended and were asked the same questions, some general, others school specific.

All candidates for 4th District and two of three for 6th District city council races attended and were asked the same questions — general in nature and city specific.

Each candidate had 15 minutes to meet with the delegates. All candidates provided good and thoughtful answers.

Following the meetings, delegates met to deliberate regarding candidate endorsements. Delegates could endorse one, two, all, or none. For school board, James Farkas, Mike Raunio and Christina Kintop received the endorsement. For 4th District city council Larry Johnson and Mark Johnson received the endorsement. No one from the 6th District city council received the endorsement.

Candidates not in the primary will be screened at the March 6 Superior Federation of Labor meeting.

The Superior Federation of Labor is considering a public forum for candidates. Stay tuned for further details.

SFL corresponding secretary
