My name is Mark Johnson, and I want to be your District 4 representative in city council.
As a life-long resident of Superior, I have had the opportunity to experience three decades of changes in our beautiful city. I believe that with a seat in City Council, I can continue to help the community grow in these tough economic times.
I am an employee of the School District of Superior, and I believe that helping today’s youth will help to ensure a better future. Each day, as I work with the youth in our community, I see much promise for the future of our great city. That is why I want to encourage youth and young adults to become more involved in the community.
I am invested also in creating jobs within the community. I recently started a small business that will help adults with disabilities, Superior Community Recreations. This program encourages individuals diagnosed with disabilities to engage in leisure activities and improve quality of life. I have worked with disabled adults for eight years, and I felt it was time to do something more. Every member of our community deserves a chance at leading a fulfilled life regardless of their mental state, economic stance or personal struggles.
I strongly believe in giving back to the community. For the last eight years, I have been the coordinator for The Tony G. 3-on-3 Memorial Basketball Tournament in honor of my late friend, Tony Gigliotii. The Tony G. 3-on-3 Memorial Basketball Tournament is committed to bringing people together from diverse cultures, economic conditions and ages for a common positive purpose. With effort and excitement from its many volunteers, we transcend basketball through the celebration of athleticism, fair play and community involvement. The Tony G. 3-on-3 also provides distribution of proceeds to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Scholarship Foundation and throughout the Northland. We are committed to making the Tony G. 3-on-3 not only an outstanding basketball tournament, but to strengthen the community now and for future generations. The common purpose is not just basketball. It is cheering for one another, working together, competing fairly and celebrating our community.
I follow politics closely, locally, nationally and internationally. I know I may be new to the local political scene, but I have invested my entire life into this community, and I want to continue to see it flourish.
Thank you for your time. I hope you will consider voting for me, Mark Johnson, to be your District 4 representative in City Council.
