Miller scores seven goals in back-to-back SHS wins

The Superior High School boys hockey team defeated Virginia-Mountain Iron-Buhl 7-1 Tuesday night at the Cuppoletti Arena in Virginia, Minn.

Aaron Miller, who scored a pair of goals in Saturday’s 7-0 win over Chippewa Falls, added five more in the win over the Blue Devils.

Miller’s first goal came just 52 seconds into the game with an assist from Tyler Nystrom.

Daniel Mikel made it 2-0 8:10 with help from Miller and Aaron Wakefield-Zubiate and Nystrom scored from Miller at 15:06.

Miller scored again at 9:58 of the second period with an assist from Wakefield-Zubiate then completed his hat trick with a short-handed goal at 14:30.

The Blue Devils avoided being shutout with a short-handed goal 21 seconds into the third period.

Miller scored his fourth goal during the same power play with an assist from Nystrom then added another power-play goal 1:36 later with help from Wakefield-Zubiate.

Zach Reiswig picked up the win in goal for Superior with 23 saves. Andrew Sederlund and Lucas Murray combined on 18 saves for Virginia.

On Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena, Superior blanked the Chippewa Falls Cardinals 8-0.

Paxton Paine picked up the shutout in goal for the Spartans, finishing with 16 saves. Sean Dubiel had 17 saves for the Cardinals.

Mikel, Nystrom and Miller each scored twice and Wakefield-Zubiate and Trent Olson scored once for Superior.

The Spartans (15-6-1, 2-2 Lake Superior Conference) hosts Hermantown (16-4-1, 3-2) at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and plays Duluth Denfeld (15-6, 2-1) at 8 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Center.
