LETTER: Tea Party politics oppose equity

To the Telegram:

RNC Chairman Reince Priebis and Gov. Scott Walker campaigned hard for Mitt Romney and Tea Party candidates throughout the nation. Nationally, many saw the Tea Party as a party for the billionaires, Wall Street, huge corporations and extremely backward values. Their national platform was seen as an agenda against women, minorities and science. Nationally, citizens rejected the extreme Tea Party platform and voted accordingly.

The Tea Party successfully gerrymandered Wisconsin and won the senate and assembly. With Walker, they have captured the Wisconsin Legislature again. Now with Priebis and Walker more focused on Wisconsin Tea Party legislation, there is talk women may face unneeded ultrasounds and other such discriminatory, forced medical procedures.

There is talk of legislation to give up our natural resources to huge outside corporate interests. There is talk of removing judges and having political appointees oversee the Government Accountability Board. No matter how gerrymandered the Wisconsin political lines now are, such extreme legislation would energize the people of Wisconsin to look for leaders who believe in equality for all and a rational stewardship of Wisconsin’s values.
