Superior Community Preschool (SCP) is an early education option for families living within the Superior School District. It is a universal, voluntary program for 4-year-olds based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards that are aligned with the state’s K-12 academic standards. All SCP classes are taught by a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) licensed teacher specializing in Early Childhood Education. The Community approach of SCP allows families options in providing quality care and education to all 4-year-olds, regardless of ability or family income in a variety of settings.
The goals of Superior Community Preschool are to strengthen partnerships between community organizations and parents; to provide high quality, enhanced early learning experiences to ALL children in our community and to help your child be better prepared for a lifetime of learning. SCP also provides parent involvement opportunities and training, including parent/teacher conferences and family fun nights.
Superior Community Preschool children learn through play and the active exploration of their environment. Teachers provide quality learning experiences through a balance of structured and unstructured activities and teacher-directed and student-initiated activities. All of which promote creativity and individual expression.
The School District Of Superior offers Superior Community Preschool at Cooper Elementary School, Great Lakes Elementary School, Lake Superior Elementary (new this year) and Four Corners Elementary School. Head Start Center 1, Head Start Center 2, Cathedral School, University Children’s Center, YMCA Childcare Center, Superior Children’s Center 1, Superior Children’s Center 2, New Horizons Children’s Center of Superior and Noah’s Ark Daycare are all community partners in Superior Community Preschool.
