Nearly two dozen area residents will head down to New Orleans Wednesday for a missions trip. Led by Jeremy Landgreen, pastor with the Twin Ports Outreach Team, this is the sixth year a delegation from the northland has gone to Louisiana for Mardi Gras ministry.

“We go because people are perishing without a savior,” Landgreen said. Along with reaching out to the Mardi Gras crowds, the 22 area residents will visit a poor area of New Orleans known as Iberville. There, they will hand out items they have collected. Donations of non-perishable food, hygiene items, kids toys and more are still being accepted.

“We want to fill the bottom of the bus,” Landgreen said. “We want to bless these people who don’t have anything, really.”

He said the annual “search and rescue” trip serves to energize those who go, filling them with a deeper love for God and the lost.

The team leaves Wednesday and returns Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day. Along with donations, the group is also asking the community to keep the outreach mission in their prayers.

“We want to see lives changed,” Landgreen said. “We only see that happening when people are praying for us.”
