SHS swimmers defeat Team Duluth

The Superior High School boys swimming team has been busy swimming at Grand Rapids Jan. 17 and finishing seventh at the Eau Claire North Husky Invitational Saturday. The Spartans also defeated Team Duluth Thursday night.

The Superior High School boys swimming team has been busy swimming at Grand Rapids Jan. 17 and finishing seventh at the Eau Claire North Husky Invitational Saturday.

The Spartans lost to Grand Rapids 121-65, then finished with 109 points at ECN. The host Eau Claire Memorial/North squad finished first with 397 points.

Against Grand Rapids, Aaron Christner won the 200 individual medley for Superior, and Andrew Eisenmann won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

“On Thursday against Grand Rapids, Andrew Eisenmann broke into our top 10 all-time list in the 200 and the 100 backstroke,” said George Lehman, SHS head coach. “He moved me to No. 10 in the backstroke.”

Christner’s time in the 200 IM was a personal best.

The Spartans also defeated Team Duluth 98-88 Thursday evening in Duluth.

Eisenmann and Christner were double winners for Superior. Morris won the diving and Kiel won the 500 free.

The Spartans trailed until Christner stepped in and won the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay of Gall, Kittelson, Eisenmann and D. Gilbertson won by nearly eight seconds.

The Spartans will compete in the Cambridge Invitational at 1 p.m. Saturday.
