LETTER: Too few join in Christian unity

We just returned from the ecumenical celebration at Cathedral of Christ the King. It was a most interesting celebration with excellent music from the Cathedral choir and inspirational words from the Bible and from the guest speaker, Bishop Duane Pederson of the Northwest Wisconsin ELCA.

As much as we enjoyed the afternoon, we were disappointed at the small numbers who attended. We arrived early so we could get a good seat, only to find there were only about 100 people. This, from an area of churches that span from Superior to Bayfield and Ashland and south beyond Minong.

We know that it was cold, but we saw people out ice fishing and shopping. Surely, an hour or so is not too much to give to the cause of coming together in Christian unity.

Thank you to Bishops Christensen and Pederson as well as clergy who came from great distances to be a part of this endeavor.

Jerry and Lucy Linsmeyer,

Solon Springs
