Unemployment rises in Superior, Douglas County in December
Unemployment rose in both Douglas County and Superior last month, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics preliminary estimates released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development.
Unemployment rose in both Douglas County and Superior last month, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics preliminary estimates released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development. Unemployment rose from 5.5 percent in November to 5.6 percent in December; in Douglas County, it jumped from 5.7 percent in November to 6.1 percent in December. Although unemployment did rise, it is still not as high as it was a year ago. In December of 2011, Superior’s unemployment rate was 6.3 percent and Douglas County’s was 6.6 percent.
According to the data, all but two of the state’s 72 counties and more than half of the municipalities with at least 25,000 residents had unemployment rate increases in December.
