Sheriff IDs victim of fatal one-car accident

A one-vehicle crash in the town of Superior on Wednesday morning left one person dead.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash on County Road A at Baumgartner Road at 4:07 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec. The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver, 22-year old Benjamin L. Heinonen, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads were reported to have been icy at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
