Tiger wresters compete in Bluejay Invite

Northwestern hosts the Tiger Quad on Friday.

The Northwestern High School wrestling team competed in the Bluejay Challenge Saturday at Merrill High School.

The Tigers, who finished in 23rd place, were led by 12th-place finishes by Jackson Carlson (160), Jay Karich (182) and Justin Little (195).

“This was a nice tournament for our young team,” NHS coach Bob Coleman said. “We had every wrestler score, and we had two freshmen place in the top 12 of this tough 24-team tournament.

“Every time these guys compete they get better, and this was a great learning experience for us. I’m very proud of them.”

Coleman also noted the performance by the junior varsity team, with Jesse Maki winning the 195-pound title; Edward Shafer, Luca Cockerham, Blake Nevin and Trevor Guenard placing eighth; and Kyle Bessler placing seventh.
