The Solon Springs boys basketball team defeated improved to 9-3 for the season with a 74-42 win over Butternut Friday and a 70-34 victory over Mellen Thursday.
Against Mellen, the Eagles doubled up their opponents in the first quarter for a 20-10 lead. Logan Long’s three 3-pointers in the quarter led Solon Springs, and the Eagles continued to roll in the second quarter, outscoring the Granite Diggers 19-12.
In the second half Mellen struggled from the floor, making just two field goals. The Granite Diggers scored nine points in the third quarter and just three in the fourth.
On Friday, the Eagles scored 20 points in both the first and second quarters to take a 40-21 lead over Butternut. Trey Scheldroup had 12 first-half points for Solon Springs, and Jacob Dahlberg had 10.
For the game, Scheldroup led the Eagles with 18 points. Dahlberg finished with 14 points, as did Daniel Gengenbach, who had nine points in the third quarter.
Gabe Miesbauer scored nearly half of Butternut’s points, finishing with 20.
Solon Springs ended the game shooting 14-of-23 from the free-throw line, while Butternut was 6-of-16.
The Eagles are back in action today with two games against Mercer. The girls game begins at 5:45 p.m. and the boys game follows at 7:30 p.m. in the Solon Springs gym.
