The Barron Golden Bears defeated the Northwestern High School girls basketball team 61-33 Thursday night in the NHS gym in Maple.
Barron (9-3 overall, 5-2 Heart O’ North Conference) dominated from the beginning, leading 17-3 after the first quarter. The Tigers only points in the opening eight minutes came on Amanda Ogren’s 3-pointer.
Northwestern (4-6, 3-4) also trailed 29-9 at the half and 51-14 after three quarters.
The Tigers had a 19-10 advantage in the fourth quarter thanks to Hailey Eller, who scored all of her team-high 15 points on five 3-point baskets.
The Tigers also got seven points from Aliex Friend, four points apiece from Katie Hansen and Angela Snow and three from Ogren.
Afton Kuehndorf led the Bears with 22 points. Gina Forehand added 17 and Sydney Clemmons and Taylor Kuehndorf had seven apiece.
The Tigers were just 1-of-12 from the free-throw line, compared to 7-of-12 for Barron.
Northwestern is back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Bloomer.
