One person died Thursday night in Superior after a pickup and semitrailer collided.

The Superior Police Department reported that two people were in a pickup headed north on Hill Avenue between Superior High School and Mariner Mall. Police said the pickup driver apparently tried to turn left onto 28th Street at about 5:30 p.m. and was hit by a southbound semi.

The passenger in the pickup was killed and the driver was injured, police said. The identification of those involved is being withheld pending the notification of relatives.

The pickup driver was sent to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. The semi driver wasn’t hurt.

Crews were on the scene for about two hours Thursday.
