A 12-hour certification course in Mental Health First Aid will be offered in Duluth next month. The course is for anyone: caring citizens, first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resources professionals — anyone.
It will be held at Amberwing – Center for Youth & Family Well-Being 5-8:15 p.m. Feb. 19, 21, 26 and 28 from
Mental Health First Aid participants learn about the prevalence of mental illnesses in the U.S. and its emotional and economic cost. Learn about the potential warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders and substance use disorders; a 5-step action plan to help a person in crisis connect to professional care; and resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.
Delivered by Lee Berlinquette, a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor, this course has been rigorously evaluated and can reduce the damaging effects of mental and emotional disorders such as job loss, school dropouts, relationship issues and drug and alcohol problems.
