The Northwestern High School boys basketball team defeated the Grantsburg Pirates 60-49 Tuesday night in Maple.
There were six lead changes in the opening quarter, and the largest lead was six points when the Tigers led 8-2.
Grant Pearson’s basket just before the buzzer gave Northwestern a 12-11 lead after one quarter.
The Tigers stretched their lead to 28-23 at the half, then blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Pirates 15-7 for a 43-30 lead.
Grantsburg (7-4) got within six points at one point in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers finished strong to win by 11.
Dylan Jardine led the Tigers with 19 points. Tanner Follis added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Micah Olson had eight points.
Connor Meyers led Grantsburg with 27 points. Brady Thompson added 14.
Northwestern (6-5) hosts Chetek-Weyerhaeuser (4-4, 3-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
