Superior improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Lake Superior Conference, while Ashland falls to 5-2, 1-1.
Jessica Lindstrom gave Superior a 3-0 lead on a 3-point play to start the game, but Ashland quickly tied the score with a 3-pointer from the left wing.
Abby Clemmons gave Superior back the lead with a layup in transition, and the Spartans scored nine unanswered points to take a 12-3 lead.
Following an Ashland timeout, the Oredockers chipped away at Superior’s lead with a pair of free throws, but Lindstrom erased the shots with an offensive rebound and put-back.
Ashland went on the attack in the paint to get within 17-12, but Superior maintained its lead and closed out the first half by outscoring the Oredockers 16-10 to take an 11-point lead, 33-22, into the second half.
Ashland started quickly coming out of the break, going on a 9-6 run to cut Superior’s lead to 39-31.
Superior responded with a few quick baskets in transition to push its lead back to double figures. The Spartans took a 14-point lead early in the second half on a 3-pointer by Alyssa Correll, but the Oredockers paced Superior to keep the game close.
Lindstrom led Superior with 23 points, followed by Correll with 14 and Hailey Kontny with 13 points.
