Duluth: Tamarack Dance Association presents a Community Barn Dance at 7:30 p.m. at Avalon Dance Institute, 404 W. Superior St. Music by the Wild Thyme Band, with Laura calling the dances. Cost is $8 for adults, $6 members or low income, and $2 for children. All dances taught, new dancers welcome, smoke and alcohol free. Bring clean shoes. Superior: It’s your last chance to hear the Superior Singers perform the 2012-13 Christmas concert “Tonight, Heaven Touches Earth,” under the direction of Brian G. MacDonell. The performance begins at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Assumption Church. The hour-long choral cantata chronicles the coming of the Savior with traditional carols and contemporary songs of praise.

Tuesday

Superior: The Bong Book Club meets at 2 p.m. at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, 305 Harbor View Parkway. Guest speaker Ronald L. Hein, a retired colonel, shares a few memories and experiences from his long military career and discusses military operations. The presentation includes handouts with a practical exercise. Superior: Chili Cook Off runs 2-6 p.m. Jan. 12 at Lost in the 50s, 1819 N. Third St. Register by Jan. 9 at 715-392-1855. The entry fee is $5 for chili voting and a donation to Circle of Hope, which provides financial help to breast cancer patients.
