Tutors become mentors to Superior boys

It’s hard to find a group having more fun than Peter and Wendy and their mentees, Justin and Dakota.

Whether they are exploring Canal Park, throwing rocks in the lake or checking out a UMD hockey game, this group loves to have fun and try new things together.

They enjoy spending time outdoors and hanging out at the YMCA.

Peter and Wendy met the boys while tutoring at an elementary school in Superior, Their relationships soon grew beyond math and reading. Justin and Dakota were in fourth grade at the time, and now as eighth graders, they still love spending time with their mentors. Just this fall, they started a weekly tradition of working on homework together and then spending time at the YMCA playing basketball.

Peter is still a kid at heart and loves to show the boys a thing or two about how to play the game.

Peter and Wendy’s relationships with Justin and Dakota are fun-loving and committed. When talking with Wendy, you can instantly tell how much she values spending time with the boys. Their voices are full of pride as they talk about their antics together.

Dakota understands how many boys in Mentor Duluth do not have the luxury of having a male mentor, and feels special and grateful that he can spend time with a male role model like Peter.
