ML-WR skates past SHS girls

The Superior High School girls hockey team lost 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Moose Lake-Willow River.

Sadey Laurvick gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead with 4:57 left in the first period and Justine Stenberg finished with 30 saves.

Superior put 27 shots on ML/WR’s goal.

Moose Lake tied the game with 3:10 left in the opening period, then after a scoreless second period, put the game away with a three-goal third period.

“In the third period is when we took some bad penalties, had some very undisciplined play and got beat to the loose pucks,” SHS coach Ernie Harker said.

MLWR was called for seven minor penalties and Superior nine.

The Spartans will play in the Webster-Siren Tournament next week at the Lodge Center Arena in Siren.

On Friday Superior will play Siren at 10 a.m. and Black River Falls at 2 p.m.
