Hayward skates past Superior girls

The Superior High School girls hockey team lost to the Hayward Hurricanes 4-1 Thursday night at the Hayward Sports Center.

The Hurricanes, who entered the game ranked No. 2 in Wisconsin, improved to 8-0 with the victory.

“I feel we really played an overall good game, but we continue to struggle to find the back of the net,” SHS coach Ernie Harker said.

Kari Miller scored Superior’s goal, with assists from Jordyn Thompson and Ari Jago. The goal came on a power play in the third period.

Justine Stengerg had 18 save for Superior, which put 17 shots on Hayward’s net.

Superior was called for six minor penalties while Hayward had four minor penalties and one five-minute major penalty.

Superior plays again at Moose Lake at 1 p.m. Saturday.
