Fake bills are popping up throughout the Twin Ports.
The Superior Police Department has taken in numerous counterfeit $100 bills from local businesses and banks within the last couple of days, according to Detective Chris Moe. Bogus $50 and $20 bills are also being passed out at commercial and retail establishments in the Twin Ports, according to a Tuesday Facebook post from the Duluth Police Department. The most common serial numbers for the $100 bills are KL25138750A; for the $50 bills they are CF06285234A; and for the $20 bills the most common serial numbers are JK81846191A and 1B79466761E, according to Moe.
The most common way to test for counterfeit bills is by using a bill-marking pen, he said.
Individuals, merchants and businesses are warned to be alert and watching for these bills and to call 911 if people attempt to pass any or the business receives any. Any information related to these incidents, including suspect and vehicle descriptions, can help, the Duluth Police Department stated in the post.
