Eagle hoop teams knock off Butternut

The Solon Springs boys and girls basketball teams picked up a pair of wins Monday over Butternut.

The Solon Springs boys and girls basketball teams picked up a pair of wins Monday over Butternut.

The Eagle boys defeated Butternut 54-32 to improve their overall record to 5-2. The Eagle girls claimed a 58-10 victory and are 2-5 for the season.

Leading the Solon Springs girls against Butternut was Autumn Blaylock, who hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Valerie Garay and Alison Smith added 10 points each, and Rachel Grubbe scored seven points. Shayla Bornholdt went 3-for-3 on free throws and finished with five points, Alicia Jensen had four points, and Brittney Armstrong and Tylor Kruse added two points each.

On Thursday, both Solon Springs teams suffered close losses to the Washburn Castle Guards.

The Eagle boys fell 61-59, and the Solon Springs girls were defeated 48-45.

Tyler Long led the boys with 18 points, followed by Jake Dahlberg with 11 and Logan Long with 10. The Eagles made 22-of-30 shots from the free-throw line, while Washburn made 11-of-16.

For the girls, Blaylock led Solon Springs with 10 points. The Eagles were 13-of-29 at the line and Washburn was 9-of-26.

The Solon Springs boys play at Bayfield Thursday, and the girls play at Bayfield Friday.
