Paul I. Peterson was born on Sept. 17, 1927 and passed away on Dec. 14, 2012 in Superior.
Born in Rush City, Minn., to Hans and Ruth Peterson, he moved to Superior in his youth and resided in the community until his passing.
Paul graduated from Central High School in Superior in 1946. Following his high school graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. Paul married Elaine McDowell on Dec. 23, 1949 and they raised two daughters prior to their divorce in 1979. Paul had a 40 year career with the Wisconsin State Grain Commission as a grain inspector. He also worked seasonally for Burlington Northern Railroad at the ore dock facilities. Paul was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Paul lived his life with great passion. He was always ready for a party, a good laugh and a card game. He loved to travel far and near, to deer hunt and his Minnesota Vikings.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Belanger of Bremerton, Wash. and Joanne Peterson of San Rafael, Calif.; his granddaughter, Jodi Davis with her husband Alan; his grandson, Jason Belanger, with his wife Margaret and by his great-grandson, Leo Belanger. Paul's grandchildren reside in Bremerton, Wash. He is further survived by sister Phyllis Chikowski, of Duluth. His companion, Joyce Prohaska of Superior and her family members also survive him.
Paul was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Peterson and Leroy Peterson.
Paul's favorite song was "Is That All There Is?" by Peggy Lee. As the lyrics suggest, "break out the booze and have a ball - if that's all there is" instead of worrying about life. We will toast our father's life.
At Paul's request there will be no services.
Thanks to the talented staff of St. Luke's Hospital and Golden Living for their selfless care of Paul during his last days.
