Duluth: William Hodapp, a professor of English at the College of St. Scholastica, speaks about “Reading Pleasure and Virtue in the Early 16th Century: Early Printing History and Reception of Stephen Hawes’ ‘Pastime of Pleasure’ and ‘Example of Virtue’” at 3:40 p.m. in Room 4119 of Tower Hall. Admission is free.

Superior: The Superior Singers, under direction of Brian G. MacDonell, present the 2012-13 Christmas concert “Tonight, Heaven Touches Earth” at 6:30 p.m. at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. The hour-long choral cantata chronicles the coming of the Savior with traditional carols and contemporary songs of praise. The group also performs at 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Duluth: The Neighbor-Made Gift Fair runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 4901 E. Superior St. More than 30 booths with local artists offer their wares and live music. Call 218-525-5098.

Duluth: Tamarack Dance Association presents Another Third Saturday Dance beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Avalon, 404 W. Superior St. Dances include reels, jigs, contras, big circles, squares and waltzes with music by the Merry Little Band with Terrence calling. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for members, and $2 for kids. All dances taught, new dancers welcome, smoke and alcohol free. Bring clean shoes. Superior: A Merry Little Christmas Book Sale runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Superior Public Library. Free gift-wrapping available.

Superior: A Country Christmas, a concert of contemporary Christmas music for the benefit of the Twin Ports homeless community, begins at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap St. Many musicians from the Duluth-Superior area will be performing. The concert is free. A free will donation is accepted for Harbor House Crisis Shelters of Superior.

Thursday

Superior: UCare hosts an informational meeting about its UCare for Seniors health plan options at 11:30 a.m. at Village Lanes, 6419 Tower Ave.

Superior: Ruby’s Pantry food distribution takes place at Christ Lutheran Church, 320 N. 28th St. E. Anyone regardless of income can purchase shares of food for $15 each. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. with distribution 5-6:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring large containers to carry the food home.

Superior: The Eagles Auxiliary serves Coney’s 5-7 p.m. and holds a meat raffle at 6:15 p.m. Money raised goes to local charities.
