Ogren's buzzer-beating 3-pointer gives Tigers 40-37 win over Rails

Amanda Ogren’s 3-point basket at the buzzer gave the Northwestern Tigers girls basketball team a 40-37 win over the Spooner Rails Tuesday night in the SHS gym.

The Tigers led throughout the game, including 7-3 after the first quarter, 15-10 at the half and 30-20 after three quarters.

The Rails made things interesting by outscoring the Tigers 17-10 in the fourth quarter behind eight points by Steph Henk.

Aliex Friend led the Tigers with 12 points. Ogren and Gwen LaPole had seven points apiece, and Katie Hansen chipped in with six.

Northwestern also got three points from Hailey Eller, two points apiece from Beth Gurske and Jordan Johnson and Angela Snow made a free throw.

Henk led Spooner with 14 points. Alex Hotchkiss added eight points and Sara Taylor and M. Richardson had six apiece.

Northwestern, 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Heart O’ North Conference, was just 5-of-14 from the free-throw line and made three 3-pointers, one each by Ogren, LaPole and Eller.

The Rails (2-3, 0-3) were 9-of-14 from the line and made two 3-pointers, both by Richardson.

The Tigers, host Ladysmith (4-0, 2-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
