High school telethon benefits local families

Superior teens will spread holiday cheer while raising money for those in need Saturday during a live television broadcast.
The fifth annual telethon, put on by Superior High School SkillsUSA students, airs live 1-8 p.m. Saturday on Channel 14.
Music and other acts are staged on three different sets, including one with a live audience. Pledges taken during the event and benefit local families through the Salvation Army’s Holiday Food Box Program.
If you’d like to donate, call 715-394-8720 extensions 144, 187, 188, or 210 during the telethon Saturday, or tune in to Channel 14. Everyone is invited to stop by the school, 2600 Catlin Ave., to be part of the live audience.
Acts slated to perform include the high school jazz band, chamber orchestra, dance team and local bands. The event includes a visit from Santa Claus and a pie eating contest.
Last year, the event raised $1,700. This year, students hope to raise $3,200.
