Superior: Engwall’s hosts an open house to celebrate its first year in Superior 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1315 Tower Ave. Chat with designers while enjoying treats. Visitors can meet Alison Price, who painted the back door mural on the building. Free.

Superior: The North End Arts Gallery Artist Market and Trade and Commerce Marketplace open house runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1323 Broadway St. Enjoy art and refreshment 6-8 p.m. at the gallery.

Bayfield: Bayfield’s Community Holiday Shopping Night runs 5-7 p.m. Bayfield’s Holiday Shopping Night and participating businesses are donating a portion of the night’s proceeds to the Bayfield Food Pantry. In addition, the Bayfield Chamber & Visitor Bureau will donate up to $1,000 in matching funds. Shoppers can enjoy refreshments, fun specials and holiday spirit.

Superior: The Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 and the American Legion Auxiliary holds its annual holiday dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Old Town Bar and Restaurant, 2215 E. Second St. All legion and auxiliary members, along with their spouses, are encouraged to attend this evening of friendship and camaraderie. Superior: Bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the UWS versus Augsburg hockey game at 7:05 p.m., then throw it on the ice after the first UWS goal. All toys are donated for distribution to children in need. The Teddy Bear Toss is sponsored by Torvinen, Jones, Kirk & Routh, S.C. Admission is $8 per adult.

Saturday

Two Harbors: Enjoy a community breakfast with Santa Claus and Clifford. The North Shore United Way Pancake Breakfast runs 7:30-11 a.m. at the Two Harbors Moose Lodge, 709 First Ave. Along with pancakes and sausage, there will be a silent auction, face painting, pictures with Santa and books for the little ones. Guest can also meet the agencies that serve the North Shore community. Cost is $5 per person, with free admission for children younger than 3.

Poplar: Sharing One’s Surplus holds a food distribution at Mission Covenant Church, 5161 S. County Road P. Anyone can sign up to receive shares of food for $25 each. Participants can pay for their tickets 8-9:30 a.m. with distribution beginning at 10 a.m. People are encouraged to bring large containers for the food.

Superior: Come join the Twin Ports Rampage fast pitch softball team for a pancake breakfast and bake sale with Santa Claus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Billings Park Civic Center, 3903 N. 18th St. This is a fundraiser for the Twin Ports Rampage, which has been invited to play in the USSSA National Tournament called the OKC Challenge in Oklahoma City in May. Admission is $7 per person or $25 for a family of four; ages 3 and younger attend free.

Superior: The third annual Christkindlmarkt runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Gardens at the corner of Hammond Avenue and Broadway Street.

Superior: Pick up some holiday baked goodies and support homeless animals during the Santa Paws event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Campbell Lumber and Supply Co., 3107 Tower Ave. Get a free photo with Santa with a donation to the Humane Society of Douglas County.

Duluth: The 2012 Depot Winter Arts Festival runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center, 506 W. Michigan St. The event features free entrance to all museums, free hot cocoa, a reading of Polar Express and entertainment throughout the day.

Danbury: Christmas at the Fort is a family even at Fort Folle Avoine Historical Park, 8500 County Road U. It runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Bayfield: Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on the Madeline Island Ferry 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Upon arrival, kids can meet Santa, take a picture —bring your own camera — in the Lakeside Pavilion, receive a ‘goody bag’ from Mrs. Claus and snacks compliments of the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau.

Duluth: Duluth Congregational Church, 3833 E. Superior St., hosts “Get Great Stuff” 4-8 p.m. Many local-made and creative gift items will be available for purchase including books by local authors.

Duluth: The Superior Singers, under the direction of Brian G. MacDonell, present their 2012-13 Christmas concert “Tonight, Heaven Touches Earth” at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The hour-long choral cantata chronicles the coming of the Savior with traditional carols and contemporary songs of praise.

Sunday

Lake Nebagamon: The Superior Singers, under the direction of Brian G. MacDonell, present their 2012-13 Christmas concert “Tonight, Heaven Touches Earth” at 2 p.m. at Lake Nebagamon Auditorium.

Duluth: Lutherans For Life, a meeting of individuals and church groups supporting the sanctity of life, meet at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St. near Viewcrest Nursing Home. All interested individuals are welcome

Ashland: The Northland College choirs perform the holiday concert “Rejoice!” at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Congregational Church, 214 Vaughn Ave. The evening includes sacred and secular performances by the Northland Singers, Chamber Choir, Accidentals and Lumberjack Chorus. Free.

Monday

Superior: The Superior Area Retired Educators’ Association meets at noon at Vintage Italian Pizza. Committee members are Bev Kaufman, Jane Prochazka, Sandra Wright, Eileen McDonald, Carolyn Reynolds, Maggie Bare and Susie Schmid. The program features the easy-listening vocal group, “The Downbeats,” directed by Pam Jacobson and accompanied by Beth Esselstrom. Duluth: The Duluth Art Institute announced the opening of the 2012 Arrowhead Biennial. This exhibit showcases the work of 39 artists in the upper Midwest. A free opening reception runs 5-7 p.m. in the John Steffl Gallery at the Duluth Depot, 506 W. Michigan St.

Superior: John L. & David L. Banks American Legion Post 418 meets at 7 p.m. at the old Bud’s Sunnyside Bar on County Highway C. All interested veterans are invited.

Tuesday

Superior: WITC Superior Occupational Therapy Assistant Students hold an activity at 12:15 p.m. at Senior Connections, 1805 N. 16th St. Learn about community resources and information regarding recreation, nutrition, homes services, health and beauty. Space is limited so sign up. Call 715-394-3611.

Superior: The Eagles Auxiliary serves Coney’s 5-7 p.m. and holds a meat raffle at 6:15 p.m. Money raised goes to local charities.

Superior: Chapter E, PEO Sisterhood, meets at 6 p.m. at the home of Crystal Hintzman for the annual Christmas dinner. Hostess for the evening will be Hintzman, assisted by the Social Committee. The program for the evening will be “Music to Our Ears.”

Duluth: John MacDougall, director of spiritual guidance at Hazelden alcohol and drug treatment center, gives a presentation on “Intervention and Treatment” at 7:30 p.m. in Somers Lounge at The College of St. Scholastica. Free. A social hour precedes the talk at 6:30 p.m.
