Lady Yellowjackets knock off No. 4-ranked Pointers

The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s basketball team upset No. 4-ranked UW-Stevens Point 70-65 Saturday evening at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

Three -players scored in double figures as the Yellowjackets won their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.

Sally Linzmeier led UWS (4-1 overall, 1-0 WIAC) with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Kristen Nett and Deandra Vavra pitched in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Brooke Allen paced the Pointers (3-2, 0-1) with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

UWS led 31-28 at halftime and outscored the Pointers 39-37 in the second half.

The UWS men lost to UWSP 79-68.

The UWS women play at UW-Stout on Wednesday while the UWS men host Stout. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
