UWS hoop teams split at Northwestern
The Yellowjacket women won 76-55 while the UWS men lost 97-68.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior basketball teams enjoyed mixed success against Northwestern Wednesday night at the Ericksen Center in Roseville, Minn.
The Yellowjacket women won 76-55 while the UWS men lost 97-68.
Both UWS teams are back in action Saturday when they host UW-Stevens Point. The men’s game is at 3 p.m., followed by the women’s game at 5 p.m.
UWS women win
The Yellowjacket women scored 15 straight points in the first half on their way to improving to 3-1 on the season.
UWS broke an 11-11 tie by racing to a 26-11 lead with 7:33 left in the first half. The Yellowjackets were up 34-21 at the half.
Sally Lindzmeier led UWS with 24 points and Connie Umanski added 16. Deandra Vavra had 11 rebounds.
Northwestern (2-3) was led by Chanel Madson with 12 points and Courtney Cunard with 10.

UWS men lose
Wade Chitwood scored 31 points on 13-for-23 shooting to lead Northwestern past UWS before a crowd of 1,023.
Michael Carney and Lance Westberg combined for 29 points for the Eagles (5-0), who shot 41-for-78 from the field (52.6 percent).
Austin Cahill led UWS (2-3) with 15 points, while Bronson Byrne added 12.
