Spartan swim team falls to Menomonie

Superior Telegram

The Superior High School boys swimming and diving team kicked off its season Tuesday with a home meet against Menomonie. The winner wasn’t determined until the final event, when Menomonie out-touched Superior in the 400 freestyle relay to win 93-87.

“It came down to the last relay,” said George Lehman, SHS head coach. “It was really kind of exciting.”

The Spartans won five of the 12 events they competed in Tuesday. Andrew Eisenmann led the way, winning the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in personal best times. Aaron Christner added another first place finish for Superior in the 100 butterfly and took second in the 200 individual medley.

Superior also claimed a pair of relay wins, finishing about a second ahead of Menomonie in the 200 medley relay and also winning the 200 freestyle relay.

“For having graduated so many people — about half the team had not swam before — our younger guys really came through and swam well,” Lehman said.
