The Douglas County Park and Ride program is up and running with 13 participating locations. The sites have specific parking spots where drivers can leave their car for carpooling purposes. They are identified by blue and white signs that read “Park and Ride.”

Locations include Amnicon Town Hall, Bennett Town Hall, Gordon Town Hall, Wascott Town Hall, Dairyland Town Hall, Summit Town Hall, Superior Town Hall, Cloverland Town Hall, Oakland Town Hall, Village of Lake Nebagamon municipal lot, Solon Springs Mercantile, the BP gas station at the intersection of highways B and 53 in Hawthorne and the KRO Bar recreation lot on the north side of Highway 2 in Brule.

Carpooling saves money on fuel, car maintenance, tires and parking fees, according to Dave Conley, chairman of the Douglas County Energy Committee.

“You are helping the environment and reducing traffic congestion,” he said. “You can also relax while someone else drives.”

To find someone to carpool with, visit www.rideshare.wi.gov or request a registration form by calling 800-455-POOL (800-455-7665). When a registration form is received, the program manager runs a match and mails the participant the result.

Home addresses and phone numbers are kept confidential and data is sent through a secured link. Other tips for carpooling are also found on the site. Park and Ride is a project of the Douglas County Energy Committee.
