Bank offers opportunity to give holiday mail to heroes

People can send holiday greetings to members of the military through their community bank. Anyone who wants to sign a holiday card that will be sent to a military member or wounded warrior can drop by any of the branches of the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) now through Monday. Free holiday cards are being provided by NBC as a way to honor America’s military members who may be in a hospital or serving abroad this holiday season. The project is part of the American Red Cross’ annual “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program.

According to Valerie Blanchenay, vice president marketing director at NBC, the bank would like to contribute 4,000 signed greetings before the program ends early in December. National Bank of Commerce in the area’s largest, locally-owned bank, with branches in Duluth and Hermantown, Minn., two banks in Superior and locations in Poplar and Solon Springs.

“Holiday Mail for Heroes has been a very successful partnership between the American Red Cross, Pitney Bowes, and organizations like NBC,” said Judy Hanne Gonzalez, executive director at the Northland Chapter. “Our military members and wounded need to know that we care about them when they are far from home during the holidays, and we’re excited about NBC’s participation.”

Gonzalez said that several other local groups are also participating in the Holiday Mail for Heroes project, including the Air National Guard, 148th Fighter Wing and the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
