Tiger boys clip the Cardinals

The Northwestern High School boys basketball team opened its season with a 68-19 win over the South Shore Cardinals Monday night in Maple.

The Tigers led 22-2 after one quarter and 43-8 at the half.

Dylan Jardine led the Tigers with 18 points. Micah Olson and Trevor Paulus added nine points apiece and Mitch Graskey had eight.

The Tigers also got six points from Tanner Follis; five from Jeffrey Priem and Tyler Blair; four from Grant Pearson; and two apiece from Nick Murray and Brayden Bartelt.

Oakes Loomis led South Shore with seven points. Keith Kavajecz added five points; Eric Tuura had three and Kyle Pedersen and Kyle Hipsher added two apiece.

Northwestern was 5-of-10 from the free-throw line while South Shore was 8-of-17.

Priem, Paulus and Blair made 3-pointers for the Tigers, and Loomis made one for the Cardinals.

The Tigers host Ashland in the Mackey Opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
