UWS women skate past Concordia

Kerry Mayhew and Sheryl Kaskiw each scored a goal and Kelsey Firkus notched a pair of scores to lead the Yellowjackets to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory on Friday night.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey team swept Concordia University this weekend at Wessman Arena with wins of 4-0 Friday and 5-0 Saturday.

Kerry Mayhew and Sheryl Kaskiw each scored a goal and Kelsey Firkus notched a pair of scores to lead the Yellowjackets to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory on Friday night.

Shanley Peters stopped 19 shots to earn a shutout, while Concordia’s Kaitlyn Evans made 33 saves in the loss.

UWS improved to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the NCHA with another shutout on Saturday afternoon.

Dani Schultz scored two goals; Kiara DeKezel, Firkus and Ashley Martin each scored once; and Peters stopped 13 saves for her second straight shutout for the ’Jackets.

Evans had 31 saves for Concordia (0-6-2, 0-4-2).

UWS also got a three-assist performance from Hayley Epema and an assist each from Bailey Lane and Kaskiw.

The Lady Yellowjackets will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at St. Catherine.
