Superior’s Mike Carlson was named the MIAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his 27-point season-opening performance in Truman State’s 83-78 loss to NAIA nationally-ranked William Penn (Iowa).
Carlson, a 2009 graduate of Duluth Marshall hit 11-of-23 shots from the floor, including a 3-for-5 mark from 3-point range, in 30 total minutes played. Of his 27 points, 15 came in the first half as he added six rebounds and three steals.
Carlson followed up with 20 points and nine rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 70-67 loss to Upper Iowa.
Carlson’s parents are Jane and Glenn Carlson from Superior.
