Tom Stroozas, Jr., 83, of Sun City, Ariz., died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City.
Tom Stroozas, Jr., 83, of Sun City, Ariz., died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City.
He was born in Superior, Wis. on March 24, 1929, as the oldest son of the late Edna Marie Stroozas (Hoff) and Thomas Stroozas, Sr.
Prior to his retirement from the CP Railroad in 1994, Tom and his family owned and operated Stroozas Big Dollar Supermarket in Superior, Wis. until the mid-1980's. While living in Superior, Tom was a member of the City Council for many years and served as Mayor Pro-Tempore in the early 1970's. He was also an active member of the Twin Ports Retail Grocers Association and a former member of Acacia-Itasca Masonic Lodge 329 and the Aad Shrine.
Tom and his wife June Stroozas (Cardigan) "retired" to Sun City, Ariz. in 1994, to escape the snow and immediately settled into a busy social life volunteering with the local Sun City Posse and Fire Department, where Tom still served as treasurer until his death. He also spent many years with several Sun City golf courses working as a starter and pro shop manager. Tom was a member of Sun City Masonic Lodge 72 F & A M and El Zaribah Shriners, Phoenix, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June, and sons Tom III, Tim, Terry and daughter Toni-Marie Auffert, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and three brothers, Gus, Peter and George Stroozas and sister Rita Papaioannou of Athens, Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ethel St. George, Delores Carlson, Bob Stroozas and Bill Stroozas.

The family will receive friends at a memorial and Masonic Burial Service on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Ariz.
