LETTER: Johnson insults constituents

To the Telegram:

I felt more than a little insulted by Sen. Ron Johnson’s comments the other day concerning the intelligence or in his mind, the lack of, concerning how Wisconsinites voted in the election.

The senator referred to us as an ignorant electorate. Now senator, I and many other Wisconsin voters will give you a chance to recant your accusations; you have four years to get that accomplished. You sir, are mistaken when you call us ignorant and misinformed.

Considering the media blitz and political advertising over the past two years, we’ve had plenty of time to investigate the claims of both parties and figure out, which is being honest and which is living in an alternate reality. The people of Wisconsin and the nation, have indeed spoken senator and because of our ability to see the damage the Tea Party has done to the once proud Republican Party, that this election turned out the way it did. The arrogance of the extreme right wing of your party has turned off the electorate in such a way that your party is in danger of becoming irrelevant.

Your comments of how you expect to explain to our newest senator, Tammy Baldwin, about how the our budget works, was just another sign of that arrogance. You seem to have not noticed that Senator-elect Baldwin has spent six years on the congressional budget committee; she could probably show you just how the budget works.

No senator we haven’t fallen prey to demagoging solutions to our problems. We’ve had plenty of time to study the issues, and we’ve made our decision. Now it’s time for your party to come to the table ready to negotiate, really negotiate, or suffer the consequences.

We are not ignorant, or uninformed, and we the people of Wisconsin deserve an apology.
