Biden inspires Superior crowd

When all was said and done, people were happy to have been part of the historic event.

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience,” said Anita Treakle of Maple, who attended with her daughter, Sarah, 16.

Treakle and her daughter said women’s rights were their biggest concern.

“We need to win this because I don’t want my rights taken away and my daughter’s rights taken away,” Treakle said.

“I thought it was great,” said Adam’s mother, Cathy Orlandi of Superior. “I just wanted to be part of it.”

Watty Ross of Superior said the speech was wonderful. The Indonesian native, who has lived in the United States for 16 years, was impressed by Biden’s spirit to bring the troops home from overseas and his words about the honesty of the president and the job voters have.

“Riveting,” said Robert G. Johnson, a UWS student. “I could just feel the hair on my back stand up but he kept talking, there was no room for it to stand up.”

The event was great, amazing and more than Johnson expected.

“I thought it would be just a down to earth talk,” he said. “It was righteous. It felt good.” And, Johnson said, he got to fist-bump Biden.

Peggy Marrin of Duluth has followed Biden on public radio. Although she knew every line, seeing him in person was a thrill.

“There’s nothing like being with them in real life,” she said.

Marrin said Biden was earthy and honest in person. He is, she said, the real deal.

“He can’t do a lie well,” said Marrin, a retired psychologist and current substitute teacher. He is who he is and I love it.”

“Oh, this will be a great memory forever,” Treakle said.
