Congressman Sean Duffy may not have been able to convince traditionally Democratic-voting Douglas County that he was the best choice for a return trip to Washington D.C., but he was leading district-wide with nearly half the vote returned.

Duffy, who launched his congressional career more than two years ago in his hometown of Hayward was headed for a win over Democratic challenger Pat Kreitlow, a former reporter and anchor.

With 56 percent of the precincts reporting, Duffy carried a solid 56 percent of the vote in district wide.

In Douglas County, voters threw their support behind Kreitlow with 24 of 26 precincts reporting.

Duffy said some of his priorities during a second term include working on tax reform and finding a bipartisan way to balance the budget.

He also sees opportunity for the nation to work toward energy independence.
