The Salvation Army of Superior is unpacking the red kettles and polishing the bells for the start of the 2012 Christmas Bell Ringing Campaign, set for 10 a.m. Thursday.

The bells ring in locations all over Superior, including all Super One locations, Walgreens, and K-Mart, with two kettle locations at Wal-Mart accepting donations after Thanksgiving.

The red kettle donations make up the largest fundraiser of the year for the Salvation Army, which provides Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and food baskets to hundreds of families in Superior and Douglas County each year.

This year volunteer bell ringers can sign up for shifts online at www.ringbells.org.

People can also call to reserve their bell ringing location and time at 715-817-8456. More than 1,400 bell ringing shifts will need to be filled.

Donations may also be made online by clicking the red kettle at www.usc.salvationarmy.org/superior.

The Superior Salvation Army is a United Way supported agency.
