Heinen improves team records, Spartans end season
Spartan sophomore Kaitlin Heinen had an impressive day re-setting both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle team standards and moving up a place in each event as compared to last year.
The season came to an end for the Superior High School girls swimming and diving team with an eighth-place finish at the 13-team WIAA Section 1 meet Saturday afternoon at the Hudson Middle School pool.
Eau Claire Memorial won the team title with 386 points. The Spartans finished with 127 points.
Spartan sophomore Kaitlin Heinen had an impressive day re-setting both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle team standards and moving up a place in each event as compared to last year.
Unfortunately the rest of the state also improved, leaving Heinen ranked 25th in each event statewide. The top 24 move on to the WIAA State Meet.
Heinen finished second in the 500 with a time of 5:16.07, which broke her own record of 5:18.99 set earlier this season. She also broke her own record in the 200 with a time of 1:57.91. Her old record was 1:59.55 set in 2011.
Devin Chicha won the 500 in 5:14.04, and Natalie Neuwirth of Stevens Point won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.76.

Hansen also moved into a tie for No. 9 all-time with a personal best time in the 100-yard breaststroke.
