UWS women earn split at UWEC

Haley Olmstead scored two goals and assisted on another to pace Wisconsin-Superior to a 6-1 victory over host Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game Saturday night.

Chelsey Wierschem, Bailey Lane and Kerry Mayhew all scored to give UWS a 3-0 lead after two periods, and then Olmstead and Hayley Epema finished off the scoring spree in the third.

Megan Leikkari made 24 saves in goal for UWS (3-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 NCHA), while Paige Turner stopped 28 shots for the Blugolds (1-3-0, 1-1-0).

Friday's game

UWEC scored three consecutive power-play goals in the third period to edge Wisconsin-Superior 5-4 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game Friday night in Eau Claire.

UWS led 4-2 early in the third period before the Blugolds strung together a trio of power-play goals.

Shanley Peters stopped 25 shots, while Lynne Larson, Chelsey Wierschem, Bailey Lane and Sheryl Kaskiw all scored for the Yellowjackets (2-2 overall, 0-1 NCHA).

Turner made 31 saves for the Blugolds.
