UWS men's hockey team goes 2-0 on weekend

The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s hockey team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 3-1 win over the St. Olaf Oles Saturday afternoon at Northfield, Minn.

The Yellowjackets (3-1) began the weekend with a 3-1 win over St. Mary’s Friday night in Winona, Minn.

Andy Singerhouse, with an assist from Mike Orosey, gave UWS a 1-0 lead 5:08 into the game.

After a scoreless second period, Mark Roth tied it up for St. Olaf at 11:47 of the third period.

Former Superior Spartan Pat Dalbec scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play with 8:52 remaining. Brett Wold and Jeff Forsythe assisted.

Nick Stoskopf sealed the victory with a power-play goal with 53 seconds left. Chad Blaniel and Tanner Dion assisted.

Ryan Pinoniemi won his first game a Yellowjackets, finishing with 18 saves. Henrik Wood had 31 saves for the Oles.

Friday’s game

Joey Massingham scored two power-play goals in a three-goal first period and goaltender Drew Strandberg made 20 saves in Superior’s 3-1 nonconference victory over St. Mary’s.

Massingham tallied twice in the first 4:03 of the game and Kyle Leahy added another goal at 6:15 on an assist from Manningham to give UWS a 3-0 lead.

Mike Hill broke Strandberg’s bid for a shutout midway through the third period.

Andy Scheib made 23 saves for Saint Mary’s (1-2).
