Robert R. LaJoie, 87, of Superior died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Duluth.

Robert R. LaJoie, 87, of Superior died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Duluth.

He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Superior, son of Dewey and Jeannette LaJoie.

Robert proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon.

On Oct. 20, 1962, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Superior, Robert LoJoie and Lorraine VanDamme were united in marriage.

Bob worked many years as a grain miller for Harvest States.

He was a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and bowling.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and four brothers, Walter, Dewey, Rudy and Richard LaJoie.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine; sons, Steve (Donna) LaJoie, Bullhead City, Ariz., and David LaJoie, Superior; four sisters, Beverly DeGraef, Judy (Richard) Coda, Donna Dodge and Patricia Marshall, all of Superior; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 2 until the 3 p.m. service Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., Superior. Rev. Lee Flaherty will officiate. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435.

Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.
