Lady Yellowjackets seep Hamline

The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey team opened its season with a non-conference series sweep over the Hamline Pipers.

The Yellowjackets won 6-1 Friday night and 4-1 Saturday afternoon. Both games were played at the Vandais Heights (Minn.) Sports Complex.

UWS put 42 shots on Hamline goaltender Caitlin Nosanov on Saturday.

Kerry Mayhew, a junior forward from Littleton, Colo., scored twice and Kaiti Graham and Kerry Mayhew had a goal each for UWS.

Mayhew was a Division I transfer from the University of Maine who scored eight goals and had a team-leading 22 assists last year for UWS.

The Yellowjackets set the tone early with Bailey Lane and Ashley Birdsall scoring within 12 seconds of each other in the opening minute of the game.
