The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey team opened its season with a non-conference series sweep over the Hamline Pipers.
The Yellowjackets won 6-1 Friday night and 4-1 Saturday afternoon. Both games were played at the Vandais Heights (Minn.) Sports Complex.
UWS put 42 shots on Hamline goaltender Caitlin Nosanov on Saturday.
Kerry Mayhew, a junior forward from Littleton, Colo., scored twice and Kaiti Graham and Kerry Mayhew had a goal each for UWS.
Mayhew was a Division I transfer from the University of Maine who scored eight goals and had a team-leading 22 assists last year for UWS.
