Tiger boys and girls finish 10th and 11th at state CC meet

In the WIAA Division 2 state cross country meet Saturday at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids, the Northwestern High School girls finished 11th as a team with 253 points, and the Tiger boys were 10th 276 points.

Shorewood won the boys team title with 80 points. Dodgeville/Mineral Point claimed the girls title with 84 points.

Individually, Jamie Shannon of McFarland won the Division 2 girls race in 14:38.94.

Jordan Johnson’s 10th-place finish led the Tiger girls. Her time of 15:07.62 is believed to be the fastest ever for a Northwestern girl on the Wisconsin Rapids course. In the mid-1990s, Sarah Anderson finished in 15:08, and Vicki Anderson finished in 15:09.

Johnson was running 21st after the first mile of Saturday’s race but had moved up to 16th after the second mile. She was one of only three girls to run the final half-mile in less than two minutes.

Also for the Tigers, Emma Nelson was 27th in 15:38.85; Michaela Ruhman was 107th in 16:36.29; Carmen Ormston was 116th in 16:49.21; Kelly Erkkila was 122nd in 16:59.98; Tess Nelson, 17:11.56, and Angela Snow, 17:13.04, were 128th and 129th.

Ryan McCoy of New Glarus/Monticello won the Division 2 boys race in 15:28.30. Bryce Miller of Ashland was the top local running, finishing sixth in 16:07.46.

Ryan Lind was the fastest Tiger, finishing 22nd in 16:40.43.

Also for NHS, Travis Sznaider was 86th (17:38.53); Mason Lombard was 98th (17:47.17), Kyle Rautio was 110th in 18:06.10;, Josiah Vik was 112th in 18:06.51; Ty Rankin was 117th in 18:12.51; and Bret Little was 143rd in 19:16.70.
