Trail rider gets probation for groping

A Superior man was sentenced to one year of probation and three days in jail for grabbing the buttocks of a jogger along the Osaugie Trail this summer.

John Frank Young, 27, pleaded guilty last week in Douglas County Circuit Court to one count of fourth-degree sexual assault. A second count was dismissed.

Judge George Glonek also ordered Young to have no contact with two women who reported being groped or the Osaugie Trail. He must also undergo a sex offender evaluation and pay $389 in fines and court costs.

Young biked up behind two female joggers while they were running on the Osaugie Trail and grabbed their buttocks on April 6, according to the criminal complaint. In both instances, Young passed the victim from behind on a black BMX-style bike and groped her before riding off, the complaint stated. Both women reported to police that they were wearing headphones while jogging and didn’t hear the man on the bike come up behind them.
