On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., community members can participate in the annual SHARE Food Drive to help restock local food shelves. People are being asked to donate food or cash to the drive to help support those who lack necessary resources to feed themselves or their families.
Area grocery stores will provide participating shoppers with a list of items needed most at area food shelves. They are asked to buy one or two items from the list and give them to volunteers as they exit the store.
The food received during the SHARE Food Drive will be distributed through CHUM’s Duluth Emergency Food Shelf, the Salvation Army, the Union Gospel Mission, and the Hermantown Food Shelf. Every month these food shelves distribute more than 60,000 pounds of food to 1,100 households.
The SHARE Food Drive will take place at tarea grocery stores including Mount Royal Fine Foods, Cub Foods, Whole Foods Co-Op, Homecroft Supervalu, Super One Foods in Duluth and Cloquet, and Cloquet Wal-Mart. Those who are unable to shop on Saturday may leave nonperishable items at the grocery store food donation barrel or bring them directly to food shelves at: 120 N. First Ave. W. or 4831 Grand Ave. Volunteers are also needed to transport the food.
