MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — Manitowoc police say the six rings missing from a woman who died at a hospital were accidentally cremated with her remains.
Ann Stradal was concerned the rings had been stolen between the time her mother, Jean, died on Oct. 11 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and the time that the funeral home came to pick up the body.
Police Detective Mike Stone tells the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter that police were able to find a photo by the coroner after Jean Stradal left the hospital that showed the rings were on her finger.
Stone says the rings apparently were cremated and that the funeral home employee was "very apologetic."
Holy Family Memorial vice president Mary Mauer says the hospital had "absolute confidence" in the honesty of its employees.
